Welcome New Students!
Orientation Week is Your Best Guide to a Successful College Life
Research shows that students who experience a structured and comprehensive orientation to their college campus and college life in general have higher chance of success in their first semester of college and beyond. Dominica State College's commitment to student success starts even before the first day of classes for incoming students. The Admissions team works with prospective students during the summer to process all documents and to prepare students mentally for what's ahead during those first few weeks of school.
Orientation Week is a learning-focused week of activities hosted by the Department of Student Affairs in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar and the Office of Academic Affairs. Students will complete a 1-credit course, Life Skills, during that week and have an opportunity to work closely with a DSC faculty member who teaches in their area of study. Students will also be guided by orientation leaders - current and past student volunteers - who will help them navigate the physical campus and support them through their anxieties and fears about starting college.
There will also be key information sessions on topics pertaining to their registration and management of their academic and financial profile as well as success workshops on diverse topics related to academic excellence, social networking and career development. But it's not all business. Students will have an opportunity to have some good old fun with the Fun Day activities planned by the team at Student Affairs.
All new students must attend Orientation Week activities for the entire week. Students will register for courses under the guidance of their faculty advisors during that week.
